Big Dumb Duck

I just finished making the duck from the same book I made monkey from. (Knitted Toys by Fiona McTague) My duck didn't really turn out the same as the one in the book. Mine seems to look kinda fat and retarded.

I was making it as a baby gift but I'm not sure if I should stick with that plan..... i think it looks too stupid. What do you think? Would a baby even care that the duck is, um, less than perfect? Monkey seems to like him anyway.

  • He's not dumb.. just lumpy. My duck was a little lumpy.. so I just worked the stuffing till he looked better.
    I like his hair. ;)

  • He looks just delightful! I am surprised that he is larger than Monkey! He brings to mind the cartoon character 'Baby Huey', but you are probably too young to remember him.
I think it's just that you worked on him so much that you can't tell how wonderful he is. I am often critical of things I have made that others think are nice. He will make a great gift!

  • put down the ducky if you wanna play the saxophone. . . (oops, had a muppet moment, there). he's fine. the baby will love him all the more for his individuality. too cute, in my book

  • I think he's great. You don't often see a duck with love handles! If the baby complains, he's an ingrate. And remember, if he drools or throws up on it, it means he loves it!

By the way, I have a huge crush on Monkey.

  • Ducky is a little pudgy, but that's fine. ;) I don't think he looks dumb, but maybe you'll make him look smarter if you add some eyebrows?

    I still love monkey!!!

  • I think Ducky's great - he's way cute! But I wouldn't be able to decide between the baby or me as a recipient ;)

  • Well if it looks like a duck, acts like a duck...it's a duck! IMHO it's a very cute and wonderful duck at that - perfect in fact. Monkey seems very happy with his new friend too.

  • Your duck is cute, but I do not know if you should give him to the baby Monkey might have a fit!

  • You wouldn't be prejudice about the obese or mentally challenged would you? There is nothing wrong with ducky being fat and retarded. He's still very lovable.

I agree with Andrea though. He might lose that 'vacant stare' if he had eyebrows.

  • Ohhh! I think he is adorable! Monkey looks like he likes him, and I'm sure that the baby will too!

  • Duck has such a cute personality. He simply needs to be in a small childs arms.

Is there a lot of work putting all of the pieces together?
